Open office vs Microsoft office.

This will be a short post about Open office vs Microsoft office.

Open office is a free office suite. It is a competitor to the very famous MS Office.

For me i'll say open office still have much catching up to do. I really do support free and open sourced programs but in this case, I actually supports MS Office due to special circumstances.

Why?

I have seen my microsoft word documents displaying incorrectly in Open office, I will not run the risk of having my document display incorrectly in my school's computer as it is critical to my grades. So I never do any school related presentations , reports in Open office as who knows , microsoft word may have problems opening the files.

Problem

So now you see the problem. Open office is actually usable but the reluctance to accept free softwares in the outside world (E.G. Schools, work place) makes it really difficult to adopt this very good open source alternative. Who would risk doing a presentation in Open Office Presentation and try to run in using microsoft office? If it works good for you , if the layout is displays weird, then you are screwed.

Conclusion

Open office is a good piece of software but I do not see myself using them in the near future as this is a software that will only work if most people use it. You don't want to be the only 1 using it in your company and when the time comes to present , the layout breaks.
